Does a creator's audience overlap your customers?

Matching a channel's audience against your target customer

Also available in: Tiếng Việt

Engagement rate tells you the audience reacts to the content. It does not tell you the audience is your customer. This is the most common reason a booking campaign "succeeds on the numbers" and produces no orders: you paid to talk to exactly the right group of people, except it was the wrong group.

Four signals readable from public data

1. What else the audience follows. The strongest signal and the least used. A food channel whose audience also follows beauty is an opportunity for a cosmetics brand; one that follows gaming is not.

2. Language and region. A Vietnamese-language channel can still have most of its viewers abroad, especially with content that needs no speech.

3. Whether anyone asks about buying. "How much is it", "where do you sell this" are purchase-intent signals. A channel with many of these sells better than one with only praise.

4. What problems the comments describe. If viewers describe exactly the problem your product solves, you are in the right place.

How to check

Audience analysis — 12 credits, 3 pages — covers signals 1 and 2. Comments analysis — 12 credits, up to 300 comments — covers signals 3 and 4. Run comments analysis on two videos: the highest-engagement one and an ordinary one. Viral videos attract people outside the real audience.

That is 36 credits per channel. Only do it in the final round, after screening with a 5-credit channel report.

The limits of this measurement

Public data does not give detailed demographics the way the channel owner's own analytics page does. What you read is public behaviour: what they comment, what topics they follow, what language they write in.

For detailed demographics, the only route is a screenshot from the creator — see how to read a media kit. And every figure here is an estimate from public data, not the channel's internal analytics.

Hard boundaries

CIA returns no email addresses, no personal phone numbers, and no endpoint returns a list of people to contact. For commenters there is only a display name and the text. Anyone has the right to see, correct or delete data about themselves under Decree 13/2023/ND-CP at the data request page.

Frequently asked questions

High engagement but a mismatched audience — should I still book? Usually not, unless your objective is broad reach rather than sales. See choosing a creator tier by objective.

Can I read viewers' age and gender? Not in the detail the owner's analytics page shows. Public data gives signals about interests and region, not a demographics table.

Are 300 comments representative? For one video that is usually most of them. Read two different kinds of video rather than trying to exhaust one.
