Manual checks versus automated tracking: the real cost

Comparing "free" with "249 credits" is the wrong comparison, because the manual route is not free — it costs your hours. The table below counts both sides for five channels, and states clearly when manual is still the right choice.
What the manual route involves
Open five channels, look at new videos, record each video's views in a spreadsheet, compare with last time, note the follower count. Done properly that is about six to eight minutes per channel, so 30–40 minutes per pass.
To catch a breakout video the same day, you have to do it daily. To find out a month later, monthly — but by then the information has lost its value. See spotting a breakout video.
The comparison
| Manual daily | Manual weekly | Automated | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your time | ~17 hours/month | ~2.5 hours/month | a few minutes reading |
| Credits | 0 | 0 | 249 / 30 days |
| Breakout detection | same day | up to 7 days late | same day |
| Typing errors | high | high | none |
| Historical data | only if you are disciplined | usually skipped | accumulates automatically |
The last row decides it over the long run. The value of tracking is in comparison over time, and historical data is the thing most often lost when doing it by hand: you skip two weeks and the trend line has a hole.
Where automation gets cheaper
Value your hours at what you charge clients, or at your own hourly rate. If 17 hours a month is worth more than 249 credits, automation is cheaper — and for most people those two numbers are not close.
But if you only need a monthly check, manual remains sensible: 30 minutes a month is a low cost.
Three cases where manual still wins
You track fewer than three channels. Three channels weekly is 20 minutes. No package needed.
You need what the tool does not measure. How they answer comments, the tone of their captions, edit quality. Those have to be watched by eye — and should be, even with a package.
You track a platform other than TikTok. The tracking package covers TikTok channels. For other platforms use the multi-platform report — 20 credits, runs in the background — per run.
The sensible combination
Let the package do the counting: views, followers, breakout videos. You do the reading: watch the flagged videos and read their comments with comments analysis — 12 credits, 300 comments.
Machines count better than people; people read better than machines. Split the work accordingly.
