New competitors: spotting them early from public data

The competitor to worry about is not the one on your tracking list — they are already being tracked. It is the channel not on the list that is growing fast. Finding them means re-sweeping the niche each quarter, and the sweep costs about 80 credits.
The quarterly sweep
Step 1 — re-run the niche search. Find creators — 15 credits, 3 pages — with the same keywords as last time, plus one new keyword. See finding creators by niche keyword.
Step 2 — compare against last quarter's list. Any channel newly appearing in the results is a candidate.
Step 3 — measure each new candidate. Channel report — 5 credits, 60 most recent videos — for each. About ten channels is 50 credits.
Step 4 — decide whether to replace a slot in your five. See picking five competitors.
About 80 credits a quarter, 320 a year. It is insurance-type spending.
Three signs a channel is growing fast
1. The 45 videos span a very short period. A channel with 45 videos across three weeks is posting very heavily — usually one that has just started investing seriously.
2. The median of the 10 most recent videos is well above the 10 before. A durable signal, not one lucky video. See why median.
3. Many comments asking about buying. The channel is shifting from entertainment to selling. Check with comments analysis — 12 credits, 300 comments.
Sign 2 is the one worth adding to your tracking list. Sign 1 alone may just be a short burst of investment.
Do not ignore adjacent niches
New competitors often do not come from inside your niche. They come from an adjacent one: selling to the same customers with a different product, then expanding into yours.
So add a keyword about the customer to step 1, not only about the product. Instead of only searching "sunscreen", also search "oily skin care".
When to drop a channel from the list
Three cases: it has not posted in over thirty days, it changed content direction to something unrelated, or it declined steadily across two quarters. That slot should go to a new channel.
Frequently asked questions
Is quarterly too infrequent? For most niches it is enough. A new channel needs a few months to become a real competitor.
Is there a tool that alerts me to new channels? No. The tracking package follows exactly the five channels you chose. Sweeping the niche is something you do deliberately.
Can I find new channels on other platforms? The tool searches TikTok. For other platforms use the multi-platform report once you have a name.
