Why a million-view video produces no orders

A million-view video producing no orders is not unusual, and in most cases the cause is sitting in the comments under that same video. The four causes below are ordered by frequency, and the first three can be checked for 12 credits.
Cause 1 — the viewers are not buyers
High views usually come from the For You page, meaning from people who do not follow you and have no need. A funny video gets watched; a funny video about a product gets watched as a funny video.
How to check: read the comments. If most are reactions to the content ("hilarious", "nice shot") and nobody asks about the product, this is your cause. Run comments analysis — 12 credits, 300 comments.
Cause 2 — the video does not say where to buy
TikTok viewers do not go looking. If the video has no cart, does not name the product clearly, or says it too fast, they scroll on.
How to check: count comments like "where do you sell this", "link please", "what is this called". Plenty of those means viewers wanted to buy and could not find where. This is the easiest cause to fix and the cheapest.
Cause 3 — the video skips one decisive question
For many products there is exactly one question that, unanswered, stops anybody buying: will the size fit, which skin type, how long does the battery last, is there a warranty.
How to check: find the most repeated question in the comments. If the same question appears dozens of times, your video is missing it. See grouping comments into themes.
Cause 4 — price or the product page stops them
Viewers tap through and leave. Comments will not tell you this, because they do not come back to write.
Indirect check: compare your price to the market range with TikTok Shop radar — 15 credits, 3 pages. If you are above the median with no visible reason on the product page, this is the suspect. See pricing against competitors and optimising your listing.
What to fix, in order
| Priority | Fix | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Name the product and where to buy in the first 10 seconds | 0 |
| 2 | Add the answer to the most repeated question | 0 |
| 3 | Fix the product page photos and description | 0 |
| 4 | Revisit the price | depends |
The first three cost nothing and usually change results most. Do not start by cutting the price.
One thing to accept
Some videos are simply not selling videos, however many views they have. If you read the comments and nobody mentions the product, do not try to rescue it — make a different video aimed at people looking to buy. Views are not the objective; orders are.
Frequently asked questions
How many orders per million views is normal? No reliable standard figure exists, because it depends on product, price and niche. Measure your own across several videos and compare to yourself.
Will I know if a video had its reach limited? Public data does not show that. The indirect sign is views dropping well below the channel's normal.
Are 300 comments enough to conclude? For one video, usually most of them. If three videos point the same way, act.
